Ibrahimović: Montenegrin Diplomacy Had No Role in Interpol’s Decision on Dodik and Stevandić

Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, has firmly denied allegations that Montenegrin authorities interfered with Interpol’s issuance of a red notice for Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik and politician Nenad Stevandić.

“Following the statement made by Milorad Dodik, recklessly echoed by certain individuals without fact-checking, seemingly to score cheap political points at the expense of Montenegro’s institutions, I categorically and unequivocally reject the claim that the Montenegrin Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any of its diplomats played a role in preventing Interpol from issuing a red notice for Milorad Dodik and Nenad Stevandić”, stated Ibrahimović.

“We remain firmly committed to the principles of the rule of law, good neighborly relations, and respect for international law. I strongly condemn any attempt to drag Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs into political disputes and baseless speculation”, Ibrahimović wrote on X.

He further stated that, after extensive communication with government colleagues, he had received assurances that no other ministries or departments were involved in the matter.

“Any alleged ‘involvement’ by an official Montenegrin institution in preventing Interpol from issuing a warrant for Milorad Dodik, or any other individual, at Bosnia and Herzegovina’s request would constitute interference in another country’s internal affairs and a blatant, deeply damaging violation of our friendly relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Ibrahimović emphasized.

He underscored that good neighborly relations must be institutionalized and based on mutual respect, recognition of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and full adherence to each country’s constitution, laws, and judicial decisions.

“In that context, Montenegro fully respects the rulings of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s courts, as well as every individual’s right to challenge verdicts through higher judicial instances following the Constitution and the law. As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, I want to make one thing clear: both my position and that of the Montenegrin government are unequivocal—full respect for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, Constitution, and laws, along with firm opposition to any actions that undermine its constitutional order or territorial integrity”, Ibrahimović asserted.

He further emphasized that peace and stability in the region are paramount and have no alternative.

“As President of the Bosniak Party, I state unequivocally that we will continue to oppose secessionist, unconstitutional, and anti-Dayton activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as any support for such actions from Montenegro, especially from Montenegrin government officials. We will not allow anyone, in the final stages of our EU integration, to sit in the locomotive of our European train while simultaneously pulling the brakes on our European path.

Long live Montenegro, long live Bosnia and Herzegovina, and long live the friendship between our two nations! May we share a prosperous and European future in the Western Balkans. See you in the EU”, Ibrahimović concluded.
